It was the end of the Gilded Age and America was fast becoming a very progressive place, I recall Rick's great-great grandfather Cornelius Carruthers Walpole Tomlinson always writing these short letters to the editor of Pulitzer's paper. If I recall he'd always have a few pound sings in them, and skip on the spaces, sort of like #rememberthemaine, it's a long time ago.
