Now I don't know how property tax payments work in NY, but in my state there's a five day grace period, then they penalize you at 2% a day, which can add up really fast. So when the braying moron waddles home, his taxes will be in arrears, his car insurance will be cancelled, and he'll be swamped in late fees. This little seafaring jaunt will end up costing the cow-eyed dolt a minor fortune, and that's before the crippling dental bills.

Im reaching here, but Im guessing he owed on taxes and procrastinated to the last minute then set it up for payments to spread it out over the year. He didnt factor in possibly having bank troubles that would freeze his ability to make his payments on time. Just another moment Joe thought he was outsmarting the system and it backfired.
