In Artie’s defense, Joe Buck is a complete dullard and his show was going to fail no matter what. Artie’s performance on it is the only part of that show people even remember at all
Plus he told Artie to be as offensive as he wanted. He also wrote the foreword for one of Artie’s books.* That pilot would have been dull as fuck sans Artie.

And Joe Buck completely mishandled it. Artie's behavior on that show was erratic and great television. Joe having a meltdown over Artie possibly lighting a cigarette shows how unnprepared Joe was to host a show in that format.

Artie was such a whiny bitch on Joe Buck. He throws out gay cracks at the other guys, but when Rudd or Sudakis threw one at him then he's "Watch it pal, I'm from Jersey," Oooh look out guys, tough guy from Jersey can dish it out but can't take it.

It still speaks to what a nothing host Joe Buck is that he couldn't shut Artie up. Letterman would lit into the fat fuck if he acted that way on his show.

This show would've been based had it lasted. Nick has really bad luck with co-hosts, because he's taking it seriously and at some point in the clip, Colin basically says "yeah I'm not taking this seriously".

I mean, I like Col and everything, but... what was he doing? If you're going to do something, take it seriously.

I overall agree with Nick's philosophy, I always liked the guy, but in that clip with Artie he was being bitchy.

Ron & Fez and Nick & Colin. WJFK was popping for a few months.

At that time, Retartie was balls-deep in his "too high and too cool to give a shit" phase, where he mostly just randomly blurted out insults and wisecracks while slouching a lot. He still had some name recognition, and was still a few years away from his "bleeding and oozing" phase, which was the Artie that Nana got.
Artie's ability to convince people of his sobriety is like a Marvel Comics level super power. It would ranked above things like time travel or invincibility.
Plus he told Artie to be as offensive as he wanted. He also wrote the foreword for one of Artie’s books.* That pilot would have been dull as fuck sans Artie.
Joe Buck didn't say that. One of his producers told Artie "if the show becomes slow just go crazy". Artie interpreted that to become as insane as possible including roasting anyone on the panel and ripping on any segment. His off the cuff roast of Buck is probably the funniest talk show appearance of all time. The next day when the played the audio on Stern and Artie just casually laughed it off "yeah whatever" will never not be funny because of how dismissive he is towards the entire event.

Buck had no idea his idiot producers had told Artie to literally act like a maniac. He knew that Artie might he difficult to control. But he was completely blindsided by Artie's bull in a china closet level fury attacking everyone.
