Europe is 6ish hours from the east coast. And like I said, she didn’t want it. She would have been upset spending that kind of money for something not at all worth it. It’s not like we’ve never been on first class, we have many times and she agrees it’s a stupid waste of money. She’s not a shallow gold digger who is impressed with spending money on dumb shit. We’ve got other much better things to spend that money on. I’ll die on this hill.

London, Paris, Belgium and Ireland are all about 7 hours from DC so right in the middle of what we’re saying. Either way, yeah I wanted the trip to be nice, and it was but I’m fine saying 10 hours or so of moderately increased comfort isn’t worth what it cost and I wouldn’t have married someone who thinks that it is. She’s not into pissing away money on dumb shit. We both do well so it’s not that we don’t have the money, we just didn’t see the value in it, having experienced it for free many times before.
My thing is I didn't ask her. I knew that she wasn't going to care the 5 hours from Phoenix to New York so we went shitty, but personally the 9 hours going from New York to Rome immediately after the 5 I wanted something better. So I got good tickets. Fuck it, you only live once.

Cool, you married a different person than I did. In our opinion first class is better but it’s not $1k-$2k better. That’s really all there is to it. We’re not cheap but we have to draw a line at some point and that’s where it is for us. Why not charter a private jet if you want the best experience?
My upgrade was $400 for both seats. I planned way ahead and actually use the travel agency to help me get a slamming good deal on first class to Rome. $200 per seat to go from the worst seats on the plane to the best seats on the plane seem like a good deal for me especially on my wedding.
Ok well that’s different then, I wasn’t talking about $200. It was something like ten times that difference for us, I looked into it.
Oh no way would I pay thousands for an upgrade. I'm talking about when you plan it a year in advance, and you get the travel agency discount, and basically maneuver every discount you can so the upgrades are a couple hundred dollars.
