I loved Viva La Bam but yeah, Bam was always exactly what you described.

Steve-O actually did make me laugh hard within the last couple years, to be fair. He put out a hot sauce called "hot sauce for your butthole". To promote it on YouTube, he wore a thong, laid on a table and had his girlfriend pour several bottles of it up his asshole, then he stood up and did a backflip off the table and as soon as he landed he sprayed a load of hotsauce and liquid shit everywhere. It was genuinely shocking. This was on YouTube and the video was up for like a day and a half. I don't know how he even still has a channel.

Bam grew up really white trash his father was a baker at a supermarket. He was a decent skateboarder and got sponsored by Nike and signed as a pro at like 15. His parents were smart with investing his money and moved up in the world pretty quickly. Him and his buddies in West Chester used to make videos of skits, pranks and skating called CKY the same name as his brother’s band. The first CKY video was a massive hit among skatefags back in like 1999. Around the same time a skateboarding Magazine called Big Brother where Knoxville, Pontius, Jeff Tremaine and others worked started making videos as well, the most famous one being Knoxville testing self defense weapons. MTV approached Bam to make a TV show as well as the Big Brother guys and it was amalgamated and became Jackass with a lot of the first season being bits taken from the Big Brother and CKY videos. Bam’s crew and the Big Brother crew knew of each other before jackass but mostly filmed stuff with their own clique.
I know way too much pointless shit about underground videos from that era. The guys who made bumfights were also offered a deal by MTV but after they were taken to court for arranging illegal prize fighting (the prize being a donut) they were ordered by the courts to not work with each other and MTV dropped the offer.

His mother pretty much controlled his life financially. He had no access to his money and was given an allowance by them, which I think is still the situation. When he used to want cash he’d do appearances at bars for cash in hand and go blow the money on coke.
The really funny thing is MTV always painted April and her family as straight laced but her family wasn't much different from the Margeras full of crazies and drug taking as well.
