That movie The Perfect Storm suffered from the same thing. Looked like a bunch of Hollywood liberal fags cosplaying as lumberjacks working on a fishing boat. The scenes where they pull in nets full of tuna then all start screaming and high-fiving make me howl every time.

That show teetered right on the edge of total retardation quite frequently, but then there was a moment so over-the-top gay it took things to a Sons Of Anarchy degree of idiocy. The thing with the chief and his kid. LOL funny, though.

I watched it when it was first airing and it was pretty funny but they just get really heavy handed with the drama with montages over music showing tragic things happening. Also you're supposed to believe Denis Leary is a pussy magnet who can somehow get away with these insane schemes and never get fired or even disciplined despite doing stupid shit constantly like getting in fights with cops. Ok it's actually sounding less good now. But it is entertaining if you can look past some silly bullshit like that. It was the same in the shield where you were supposed to believe every chick saw 5'3.fire hydrant Michael chiklis as a hot alpha male

I recently watched through it, it was awesome. My impression before watching it was that it got so bad and ridiculous after a while but it was all clearly tongue in cheek to the point that they were even commenting on it in the show.

It was always funny watching Tony Soprano get rejected by women. Or the scene where Walt in Breaking Bad starts making out with the principal and she freaks out and shoves him away. Nucky from Boardwalk Empire has women walk all over him as well. Lots of actors when they produce the show that they are on will tell the writers "I never lose a fight. I never get rejected by a woman". Supposedly Vin Diesel and The Rock have this in their written contracts.
The Shield has one female character who uses Vic repeatedly and preys on his weakness for women. The toothless prostitute who gets Vic to beat up her pimps a few times then laughs in his face. Vic also loses his wife and his mistress and all of his kids permanently. So his 'fuck every woman' lifestyle pretty much explodes his home lives.
Tony getting turned down by Melfi a dozen times then refusing to accept it one of the best interactions between them. Him sending her tons of bath products. Calling her a 'cunt' through the door. Grovelling apology after.
