I enjoyed that part, but then he started going on and on about some guy getting a hand job and pouring cheese on the guy's cock and I just started losing interest. I like Stanhope in general, though.

I’ll give him credit for being one of the few comics who was attacking George W. Bush in 2001 (post-9/11) at a time when even Janeane Garofalo was telling Patriot Act critics to “move to Canada”. Going after both political parties was considered edgy in those days for some reason but that’s more a testament to our faggot country than Doug’s prowess as a comic.

I was a fan of Doug for a number of years but looking back at his old stuff it’s nothing special and some of the political material is downright embarrassing. “How do you have ‘rules’ for war? What’s that sick shit?” Maybe so young people conscripted against their will aren’t tortured to death when they’re captured? Or so that innocent civilians aren’t targeted with white phosphorus for sporting pleasure? or enslaved in a harem? Nice political material/presidential run, stupid.

That bit was also a hack bit back then, though maybe Doug did it first (certainly nothing to be proud of). But I remember Wanda Sykes and D.L. Hughley both doing the “Why do we have ‘rules’ for war?” routine and that tells you all you need to know about the caliber of the material. My personal theory is that Vos did it first on Def Comedy Jam and it caught on like wildfire.
