Should smokers be treated like subhuman scum and paid less (if at all)

At my job the smokers are the least productive. Vapers are even worse.

They are always complaining about being broke. They take the longest time to do anything and they gossip like women.

The warehouse guys have two non-negotiable rules mandated by insurance\legal:
* Smoke in the designated area which is on the other side of the building.
* Keep the loading bays locked when the trucks are gone

Every few months 2 or 3 of them get fired for unlocking the doors to go out and smoke and we have to waste time hiring and training more. They always get a final warning, but then they always do it again. They do it as a group because they think we can't fire all of them. But we always do, because we have to. Then we tell the next group what we did to the last group, and they end up getting fired too.

The cost of hiring a smoker is way higher than the cost of hiring a non-smoker for all unskilled labor. I made a spreadsheet for my boss and he agreed but called me an asshole.

As someone who started smoking at 12 or 13 (maaaaaaaan) and continued well into their early 40's, and still chews nicotine gum, and, on special occasions, chews tobacco; I've never made my penchant for nicotine anyone's problem but my own.
So yes, people who "need" a smoke break are lazy white trash who need to be fired.

My job has a policy that says employees can't smoke, and I had to sign a form when a started saying that smoking tobacco products could be grounds for termination. One or two people still smoke in my organization, but they're both in a different office, and HR doesn't feel compelled to do anything about it because the numbahs are so small.

When I worked at bars it always annoyed me that the smokers could take a break whenever they wanted yet if I told them every hour that I was gonna just go stand outside they would be pissed
Sounds like you’re basically the chump in this scenario, guy. Take up smoking like the cool kids and then you can have a break whenever you want. Anyone can do it!

Smokers and fatties should have their own health insurance pool to pay for each other's exorbitant Healthcare costs. Tired of them piggybacking (:image_9251:) off us and driving our premiums and deductibles up.
Don't smokers have to declare that they do it?

Non-smokers can fuck off anyway, I'm paying $60 for a pack of 40 and at least $50 of that is just tax. Go kiss my fat penis non-smokers, I'm contributing to society more than you.

I don't know about the states but the tax on cigarettes here is so high as their health costs are factored in. I can't stand the smell of stale smoke on people's clothes after they come in from smoking. It's truly disgusting. I would rather smell piss.
The taxing is starting to really pile up. I know NY is over $10 a pack and CA and OR are similar.

I smoked in my 20s, but taking a cigarette break was an unwritten no-no. So was having lunch away from your desk unless it was with a client. People did it, but they didn't last more than a year or two. Still managed to get through about 20 a day though in bars after work

My old boss was a heavy cigar smoker and would smoke outside during his breaks, then come back in, and stink the entire office up. He would eat at a Manhattan private club that allowed smoking during dinner just to get another cigar in during the day. And all of the women smoked cigarettes to stay thin so everyone reeked at meetings. Even some of the women had smoking jackets.

But telling them all that they smelled like shit was somehow socially unacceptable. Yet if they all stopped showering for a month would people be able to complain about those smells? I always found it ridiculous that complaining to smokers about their stench was impolite. I could not imagine working in offices in the 70s and before where the entire room would be filled with smoke.

Anyone who vapes should be executed.
