Sampling in rap is just cheating

Every rap song I hear that I enjoy, I realize the only reason why I enjoy it is because it took a good beat from some song from the 70s and that has nothing to do with the artist or the song itself. That's just stealing something something directly that a more talented person made.

It doesn't help that rap takes the least amount of talent to write lyrics for.

Depends on how much they copy the original song. Kanye knew how to use just enough to capture the right hook and still have something original. Whereas Diddy, when he wasn't dancing in someone else's music video, would just rap over the verse of an song and leave everything else the same, including the chorus.

Of course, now we know Kayne is with Jesus and Diddy is with the devil.

I've changed my mind on sampling. As I get more and more into EDM and pop I don't even necessarily want any live instruments played on stage as long as the vocals are live. What's the difference between buying an original beat and stealing an old tested and true one?
