Nana & Norton turned the show into their own flirting session with gay pedophile jokes and made us all listen to it. They enjoyed talking to each other in that old lady Helen voice far too much and for far too long.

I’ll defend a couple of those things. I won’t defend all of them because many are gay. Sometimes the caller shit was good, and a good way to move the discussion on. Look at the opposite. Anthony doesn’t take any phone calls (rarely did, not even sure if he gets any now), and the few times he does, it’s usually just faggot ballwashers. The soundboards were also occasionally funny as well. He should have just kept his mouth shut and figured out when to swap the subjects. He was uncomfortable being the straight man because he had faggots talking shit behind his back and acting like he was worthless.

He would but, it was usually to bring up something about Anthony. “Oh Dara” or when Anthony was talking about Joe stealing from his employer. He would occasionally let him on to plug his shit though. He ran the show. Came up with the format. Moved the show along when things were dragging. Created tons of contests and bits that are still funny today like Homeless Shopping Spree, Jocktober, the various song parody contests. Was willing to be confrontational with guests, management, and other hosts on the show. Prevented the show from being fired a bunch of times. Refused to back down almost ever including refusing to say on air that the mayor was not dead. He would disrespect guest and celebrities including hanging the phone up on them which no other show would do or has done since. He would take part in the stunts like baby diaper mustache or cake stomping not caring what management would say.

Took callers that he knew would bomb or might bomb rather than screen calls and record them like all other shows. Would bomb himself and move on whereas Norton and Anthony would fake laugh over each other's bombs like queers. Would not shield anyone including himself from negative callers which lead to some huge arguments. Brought in endless tapes of him that were humiliating like WAAF, Real Rock TV, Spuds Buckley, that literally no one else would have done in this age of image washing faggotry.

Some of the funniest moments on the show come from Opie. If you listened since 2004 you would know. Anthony and Norton clogged up the show where their garbage far more than Opie. There was a period of a year where Norton booked a porn whore or penthouse pet practically every week in some bizarre attempt to appear straight. Anthony with his weird hatred of 9/11 conspiracies or the Trayvon months probably took up 100x as much time as anything that Opie did like eating on air. Opie would mention his quest for a viral video every once in a while. Norton was foaming at the mouth of plugs, gigs, his book, Lucky Louie, like he was going to be the next Oscar winner.

In addition to this, I think it's also worth stating the obvious that O&A were a radio show. People like to bitch about Opie going to calls, but if you remove any reminder that you are listening to a live radio program, then you're just listening to a podcast, and you might as well listen to YKWD.

Opie was the reminder that you're listening to something that doesn't have the right to be as good as it is. They NEEDED the hacky radio guy. It was like bizzaro radio. I think the YT fans just don't have the experience of listening to radio as a medium to appreciate something actually doing it well and making you lawf your fawkin' balls off at the job site. Even if most of the callers were utter shit, it wouldn't have been the show it was without the callers and the Opester.

Some of that steamrolling was necessary to transition to another topic or a guest. Even the best comedians on the show needed structure, because you don't know how bad it would've gotten if it was just Patrice's stream of consciousness for 10 minutes. Opie was also the final say on guests who took the hit as the bad guy because he knew what was best for the show. Perusing CP Media's guest list this week, or even Jim & Sam's (which has the media platform and can claim to be the brand's successor) shows that Opie's filtration was necessary.

Jimmy didn't have what it takes to tell a comic they weren't right for the show and Anthony was too hung over. Opie's failing was always his lack of humility and his unwillingness to tell the staff and his co-hosts what was going on.
