I had one album solely dedicated to PURPLE stamps from the US civil-war and reconstruction era. I probably spent the equivalent of @NoBacon's gaming chair, but from my allowance, on buying extremely rare postage stamps.

I'm disgusted by kids who just got free money from their parents for no reason. Especially those who brag about like an accomplishment. We used to pick on kids who would come to school with new Beanie Babies and Pogs and shit everyday. I made a girl named Anna cry by calling her spoiled over and over until she was like "It's not my fault my mother spoils me, okay? My parents are divorced!" I saw her on the train years later and she's fat with a shaved head now lol I like to imagine I did that to her.

I got $300 a week in high school. I would get down to like $75 by Thursday and ask for more and they'd give it to me.
My only chore was you have to clean your room if you want me to take you shopping. Then they paid for whatever bullshit designer bags and shoes I wanted outside of my allowance
They haven't given me a penny since I moved out at 18 though. Including college tuition at the most expensive school in the country. I'd be like I'm homeless and they're like well that's too bad

Out in rural areas, there isn't anywhere to spend money, so you don't need it as a kid. Occasionally you get paid to do manual labor

In the years where mom and pops were feeling stingy with the cash we would do car washes in the summer for all the college kids that lived nearby. Didn't pay great but taught us pretty early that making a buck took some time and effort
