Cool that Buck Weaver and Shoeless Joe finally got reinstated, though. Jackson deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Weaver wasn't a Hall of Fame-level player, but he didn't deserve to be banned in the first place. They shouldn't have reinstated the rest of the Black Sox though.
All the sports betting shit we have now doesn't compare to the people Rose was betting through. Draft Kings isn't going to threaten to murder your family members unless you throw a game. Rose opened himself up to that being a realistic possibility.

Not only were they all guilty but the same team threw a bunch of games at the end of the 1920 regular season as well. Most people don't even realize that baseball and boxing were filled nonstop with rigged and fixed games from even the early 1900s. The Black Sox likely threw games their entire careers to make gambling money. These guys were masters at making their strikeouts or errors look legit like WWE wrestlers selling a big slam or whatever.
It's the same with MLB grandstanding with press conferences over making the sport clean of steroids and keeping doping players out of the hall of fame. But then literally running home run record highlights nonstop for a decade from guys whose bodies were bursting through their uniforms. And turning a blind eye to the fact that everyone is still using every PED imaginable now.
I liked him. He was a baseball prodigy. The way he would talk about his thought process and approach to the game and hitting was so insightful. Reminds me a lot of how Greg Maddux would think through pitching.
I also don’t see the big deal if he did bet on his own games. How would you manage to bet against your own team but still make sure you rack up 2 or 3 hits but not contribute enough to actually win? I don’t doubt that he may have sandbagged games but players have been doing that shit for centuries just because they get lazy or are butthurt about something.
