Pete Rose posthumously reinstated into baseball

STEP OFF!
I've always heard this take when it comes to Bonds and it's, and I say this with peace and love, retarded.

The man was a top 10 (maybe 5) all time player when he was 180 lbs, guaranteed 1st ballot hall of fame type player. He got bigger for a reason, with or without steroids. Warning track outs are now 5 rows deep. All of his most productive years, home run wise, are him from ages 35-40 when most players are well into a big decline. My cousin played minor league ball when steroids were becoming a thing. He said the biggest users were guys hoping to be relief pitchers in the big leagues because it helped with recovery more than anything. Bonds, one of the best of all time, completely changed his body and it wasn't for looks; it was for performance.

It is a shame he had to do that to himself, but it's a very competitive league and fans loved seeing players destroy balls back then.

I always liked Bonds. As you said, even at 180lbs he was feared by pitchers which doesn't happen these days. His swing was super compact and he kept that swing even when he got huge.

It's all self inflicted with Bonds because what we remember with him is the steroids leading to the single season and all time HR records, but his stats through 98 (if we accept that he only started using steroids after 98, or at least heavily) are insane. He was already the only 400 HR/400 stolen base guy (still is, though he ended up with over 500 SBs). Multiple time MVP and like 7 or 8 golden gloves. Absolute freak and absolute asshole. I'm really not sure why hall of fame voters have such a stick up their asses with him and Clemens when plenty of other steroid users (and earlier speed users) are in.

I'll always love Greg Maddox's take on Bonds, that he was the easiest batter to pitch to because "if it mattered at all you just walked him."

The amount of IBBs he had was hilarious. Even with bases loaded.

Another fact I always found interesting about him was he only really lead the league in HRs a couple times. He was just extremely consistent.

I had to look up the walks: he was only walked once with the bases loaded but in his career he had 688 IBBs, Pujols is 2nd with 300 fewer IBBs. Bonds, with or without steroids, was so much better than people remember.

Most of those guys in the top 10 in all time HRs only led the league like 4 times, something like that. The anomaly of anomalies, of course, is Babe Ruth.

Say what you want about steroids, they do not make the ball hit the bat.
But after the ball hits the bat, it goes further.
Steroids didn't help Bonds hit home runs.
This is laughable
Even as a skinny guy he was hitting them, and at distance.
When he was in his 20s
If anything, the steroids he allegedly took only helped the ball go further.
Yeah, from the outfielders glove, further, into the San Francisco Bay. Thats kind of the whole point.

Excuse my snarky cuntiness, but Barry Bonds does not do what he did post-2000 without roids. From 2001-2004 when he was the greatest slugger of all time, would have been the exact years his power would have fallen off a cliff if he wasnt juicing.

I think he did nothing wrong and that he should be in the hall. Put whatever you want into your body thats currently available, but to say steroids didnt help him hit home runs is retarded

As I said, he was already hitting home runs. Adding another 30 feet on his distance isn't much when he was already hitting 400 foot home runs when he was skinny.
Bonds was on steroids when he was skinny as well. Just like Lance Armstrong or Sean O'Malley were on PEDs despite being lanky. You can find tons of athletes on steroids that are rail thin and small. Bonds started taking an entirely different steroid regiment once he got hooked in with the BALCO people and that caused his body to bloat.

Lance and the boys really weren't taking steroids, at least not anabolic steroids. Testosterone, sure, at times but EPO was/is the king over there.

Of course it helped him. I never said it didn't. But him making contact with the a ball wasn't done with steroids.

Adding 30 feet to his already 400+ foot home run range isn't much. It absolutely
helped but the skillset was already there.

Tons of players used roids and didn't come close to his numbers because steroids don't put the bat on the ball.

They were taking tons of testosterone and growth hormone. They just didn't get giant like Bonds because their only exercise was riding a bike. If you take tons of steroids and hormones but don't lift you'll build lean muscle without bulking up. This is why so many smaller athletes like bantamweight boxers or MMA fighters are popping for steroids despite being skinny and lanky.

They weren't. Or at least USPS/Discovery wasn't. The odd testosterone patch here or there but even Lance has said it was all about EPO.
Wrong. They were taking testosterone mixed with olive oil every day. Armstrong would have giant batches of this stuff made by their team doctor. And then he would pass it around to the rest of the team. These guys were literally on the strongest PED regimen for any athletes. All of their trainers were really just pharmacists and nurses who kept them all doped up for the entire season. Injecting them with hormones and steroids every day.

Armstrong is a huge liar. Even his admission about using PEDs was filled with lies. He'll never come fully clean. He knows that he's just the scapegoat at the end of the day. And that every other rider used the same stuff he did basically. He just had the absolute best doctors and chemists compared to other teams. Same with Bonds.
