I’m a penguin lover who was reading up on penguins mating for life, and same sex penguin couples adopting abandoned eggs and I was just wondering how it’s determined for a penguin to be “officially a mate” if they mate for life, what are the penguin courtship rituals? Does one give the other a pretty rock it found or a similar gift?? Can a penguin be courted by multiple penguins without mating since they mate for life??? Please I need to know, it would mean the world if y'all could give me some answers

To pick a mate a male penguin will often go to several potential mates and break the ice.

Once he's narrowed down the field to 2 he will often just flipper-coin.
