Opie vs Jim Retrospective

Can't say I wouldn't be a dick too if they gave me money to be a dick on the radio. But we're pretty much in agreement, I remember seeing Sean opening for someone like Whitney Cummings a long time ago and didn't care for him. I will say this though, since Jim was invested in having Sean on the show he really should have ramped him up in advance and helped him to be less of a bore on the show. He wasn't someone you'd interview so he needed a rundown of all the inside jokes and Jim should have tossed him a softball or 2 to get him onboard. Part of Opie's insecurity was that he knew people were using him to promote but didn't really like him. He'd try to put them on the spot to prove they were just whoring. If jim did his part, Sean could have fit in better.

Be an asshole to the listeners, the whack pack, and random authors promoting horse shit but good comics are what ultimately made the show a fawkin amazing hang. Jim be too lazy to help someone out? I actually went to Jim Norton's production in Englewood NJ. First time I saw Cummings, Jesselnik and a few others I forget. My friend's wife was the bartender and we watched the whole thing from 4pm to midnight. Cummings was funny, and perfect for us because we were there with our wives. Jesselnick was fucking great because I never saw him before and the rest of Jim's friends were okay so we laughed politely. Funniest guy I met that night was CS Kenny. I can't say this as a fact, but I am 99% sure he was there on the lookout for black people.

You mean Down and Dirty? Andy Andrist getting his set cut out for being too offensive was a great bit. Out of all of Norton’s failed projects that one should have made it.

I enjoyed the show live. We sat back and watched them move the crowd around so it looked like different shows. If I had to move 3 times I would have just left. But back then the standouts were Cummings and Jesselnik. Everyone else I had heard before, the Metallica guy was in the balcony hoping people would notice him. Not sure who Andy was but I'm guessing he was the anti religion guy, I liked his premise but he really seemed stupid. I forget his act but if he badmouthed Islam jim would never have the balls to include him, probably the same if he only did christians.

Norton is a pussy for not fighting for his act to be included. Only act to not make the cut because he made a joke about amputee porn and the troops. Crazy how much the times have changed.
