I hate to be the well akshually guy but I know if you're using new or pressure-treated lumber, you're supposed to let it dry/cure/whatever for a month or 2 and then stain it. Granted, it's been sitting there for almost a month but it might not be ready yet. These are pre-made panels so maybe they're stain ready and I think if they're made of cedar you can stain them right away. Since we're talking about Rick, we can probably assume he could have done it and was just lazy. He'll probably wait like 6 months and then try to stain it but it will be all fucked up by then.

Actually who are we kidding, he'll probably pay someone masculine to do it for him while he sits at Hooligans. Then he'll take a pic of the finished product Tweet it with a vague comment that makes it appear that he did the work.

-Not sure why he went with the posts with decorative capping. Only makes sense if you have the top of each panel hanging lower than the base of the capping, which Pat did not do. The purpose of something decorative is that you can actually see it and enjoy the decorative aspect of it. Pat's are haphazard and half-covered.

-As others have pointed out, this is a side yard fence, not a back yard fence. There's a diagram on page 2 here:

-The relevant code is 295-505-f-3:

f-3.
Fences in Side Yards. A fence located in a side yard shall not exceed 4 feet in height.
It also says:
Any sideyard fence may be erected to a height of 6 feet if it is located more than 10 feet from a side lot line.
Link: https://city.milwaukee.gov/ImageLibrary/Groups/ccClerk/Ordinances/Volume-2/CH295-sub5.pdf

This is a 6 foot tall fence (taller if you include the decorative capping) in a side yard. It is against code unless he is more than 10 feet from the property line.

He's definitely in violation of 295-505-f-11:

f-11. Orientation of Supporting Members. The vertical and horizontal supporting members of a fence
shall face the interior of the lot on which the fence is located.

edit: purely for informational purposes, you can go here:

Click "DNS - Department of Neighborhood Services Requests" then "Illegal Fence on Private Property" and report any illegal fence in Milwaukee. I don't think anyone should actually do this and I am not suggesting it, but it is a simple process.
