Yeah I think the same reason why some of the most bland and safe music is so successful. It’s like Journey in the 80s type thing - which I think was the first band to have a major beer sponsor for their tours.

Side note: I saw Nickleback right as they were blowing up in 2001 playing a rock radio’s yearly holiday show called “The FEASTival” (the summer one was called the Fez-tival - I’m not joking) and the played second out of 5 (also on the bill was Lit, Sum 41, Bush, and Blink 182) and they did something that really pissed off the radio station while on stage and I heard someone from the station say they would “never” be played again on the station and they actually did pull their music over it. Station changed formats in 2005 but they actually did pull them / never add their new stuff. This was back when radio stations had some power.

I wish I could remember what they did but it was something involving Chad losing his shit on stage on a couple fans on the floor that flipped him off the whole time and he demanded on stage to the security to throw the people bothering him out. They were barely above an opening act making headliner demands. They also were all wearing cowboys hats and were being called faggots which also upset Chad and I think he trashed the city (this was in Philadelphia as you can tell)

What’s weird about that whole emo / pop punk scene that died out is now doing 20th anniversary tours for the last time they were a thing. It died out in the 2010s yet their biggest stuff was early 2000s and the 2008/09 releases weren’t as big as their early stuff. What a weird time for “rock” music.
