It depends on what they find. If they find nothing then they imploded and are dead and there is nothing you can do about it. If they find the sub intact then it is either powerless or stuck in the wreckage which is why they never resurfaced. They need to free it from the wreck and remove the weights and adjust the ballast. Then hook it to another sub and drag it to the surface before the airs runs out.I don’t think I’ve heard anyone explain how they would get them out of there even if they did find them alive on the floor.
One of the ways that this submersible would adjust its ballast in an emergency was hilarious. It required the crew members to pile on each other and rotate the sub like a hamster wheel so that it turned upside down. And that would cause it to shed some weights it was carrying and make the sub lighter. As the weights would fall off the top when it was upside down and then it would float up to the surface. Cutting edge design.
