I don’t think I’ve heard anyone explain how they would get them out of there even if they did find them alive on the floor.
It depends on what they find. If they find nothing then they imploded and are dead and there is nothing you can do about it. If they find the sub intact then it is either powerless or stuck in the wreckage which is why they never resurfaced. They need to free it from the wreck and remove the weights and adjust the ballast. Then hook it to another sub and drag it to the surface before the airs runs out.

One of the ways that this submersible would adjust its ballast in an emergency was hilarious. It required the crew members to pile on each other and rotate the sub like a hamster wheel so that it turned upside down. And that would cause it to shed some weights it was carrying and make the sub lighter. As the weights would fall off the top when it was upside down and then it would float up to the surface. Cutting edge design.

Considering where they are – if they're actually alive – I don't see how they could do it at this point. They've got about 7 hours of oxygen left, so even if they found its exact location right this minute I think they'd probably still be fucked. To find it, get to them in time, and then getting them moving towards the surface in 7 hours seems pretty unlikely to me, but I also have no idea what I'm talking about.

You can just attach a bushel of Ukrainian anti tank water balloons to the hull, funster.

It's all theater to shield people from the horrific truth: they're fish food.

If the thing didn't already surface, they're dead. Hopefully it was an implosion and happened fast. There's a sliver of a chance (<1%) it did surface somewhere and they just haven't found it yet.

Probably, but it’s also pretty likely that they killed the 2 pakis early on so that may have bought them some more time.
