Theres something so funny about the inevitable disaster of giving people who play physical sports (and probably have some brain problems) MILLIONS of dollars all at once. Shaq has that one story about how he signed this multi-million dollar deal and within a year he lost it all and was in debt, because the dude bought all this shit and didn’t even realize he had to pay taxes not just on the shit he bought but his contract too. Same shit with Mike Tyson. Same shit with any football player.
Flair even more so because he’s the example of a wrestler “believing” his character to the point they can’t turn it off. He really lived his life like he was this very wealthy man with the best clothes / jewelry / shoes etc with the best house and ALL the women (he’s been married 5 times) and that’s why he’s such a mess at his old age. Richard Flier was an adopted kid who was a bit chubby before he became “Ric Flair” and even his adopted parents didn’t like what he had become. Hogan said it wasn’t until recently he ever saw Flair drink anything that didn’t have booze in it. Flair has been maintaining at least a buzz for over 50 years.

I’ve told this before but I lived in Orlando in the mid to late 2000s and TNA did their tv / PPV tapings at Universal Studios and a lot of the wrestlers would hang out at a local Millers Ale House. Ric got banned from there because he would often run up a large tab (buying drinks for everyone) only to have his cards get declined when it was time to pay. I’m wondering if that 1k tip even went through.

People mock Hogan for telling all kinds of tall tales that aren’t true but for some reason Flair doesn’t get the same treatment. He’s made all kinds of wild claims over the years. Now he’s saying he got dehydrated, passed out, AND has a heart attack in his embarrassing “final” match.

That’s right, his “helicopter” trick - that episode got Tommy Dreamer in trouble for acting like what Flair did was just “boys being boys”

When I worked in TV production I worked for the company that did “Hogan Knows Best” and we shot a pilot called “Life of Flair” that was Ric partying and hanging out with his son Reid who was becoming a wrestler. We even had planned a crossover with our current Hogan spin-off show “Brooke Knows Best” where Reid and Brooke would “date” and that way we could get Hulk and Ric to interact. VH1 didn’t pick it up (Ric was too heavy on being Reid’s wild party friend and not really his dad) and couple years later Reid died from an overdose.

Have you seen his Kill Tony episode, somebody mentioned junkies and he started rumbling about his dead junkie son so they started playing that Opie Anthony sad music and he walked off the show

I really wish I worked directly on the Flair pilot but I only saw parts of it in the editing bay because I was on another show at the time. From what I saw / what the people working on told me it was Ric and Reid looking fancy in three piece suits going around Charolette NC in limos / black SUV’s with attractive “women” (they were cast) and partying at night clubs & ultra lounges like they were best friends and not father and son. Ric had just retired from wrestling (that didn’t last) and we set it up like they were roommates and buddies living together with Ric being the immature crazy one who just wants to chase women and party - not much of a stretch for him. VH-1 turned it down because they felt it was “sad” and kinda depressing to see this old man making a drunk fool of himself with his young 20 something son.

I don't know why anyone thinks stuff like this reflects well on flair. There's nothing cool about being a 75 year old man who gets out of control drunk and acts like an asshole to people when they get called out on it. Hell i'm almost half his age and if i'm drinking heavily i'm just hanging out at home because I don't want to be that sloppy asshole stumbling around embarrassing myself.

Not to mention being "cut off" for being too drunk. I've seen plenty of people in the UK get turned away from clubs for being too pissed, but I'm struggling to remember a time when I've ever seen anyone get refused service for being too drunk. And I worked in pubs for 3 years during uni. I'm sure it happens, but I don't remember seeing it unless someone pukes or shits themselves
I Think pubs and clubs in the UK are more unscrupulous than bars in the US. A while back I was watching episodes on youtube of Booze Britain or some trash entertainment show like that and there it seems like they will turn people away for being drunk, but after that they don't care. They will let them drink until they cause enough of problem for bouncers to toss but not let in a drunk person because then the person is spending all their money their. a drunk person they can only serve a few before they puke or pass out of fight someone and have to throw them out.

I have only experienced it in the US but if someone gets overserved and ends up getting in a drunk driving accident or having alcohol poisoning it can come back on the bar. If they get too many strikes on their liquor license for issues they can get it taken away.

This is what you can expect from all old people who move to Florida. In a bar in the middle of the day getting cut off because you’re too sauced. And you’re standing there in your Hawaiian shirt calling the bartenders dickheads. Doesn’t matter if you’re a retired construction worker or one of the biggest wrestlers ever. This is what your life becomes in the Sunshine State
Worked at a bar you really really have to be OUTA control for them to cut you off 🤔
