The whole reason it was ridiculous is because that ending would require a slightly more comedic tone to the film as a whole to land. Instead it’s shot and acted as a dead serious thriller until that moment.

I’d love to hear how he possibly foresaw that ending.

He didn't act from 2004 until 2010 when the tapes leaked and he lost all of his money. His only work during that time was Apocalypto, probably his best film, which took a few years to make. He then starts doing one or two films a year until 2020 when he then becomes a straight-to-video churning machine. He did a ridiculous seven films in 2022 to obviously pay off some crazy debt.

This guy made some of the biggest box office movies of all time but is completely broke financially from the looks of it. I can barely read through the two paragraph summaries of the plots of his last few films. Imagine sitting through two hours of the awful plot and acting.
