Mega cheapo bass review

For the price it’s faultless.

I don’t think you can beat gretsch at that price point.

I also have this gretsch parlour guitar, I think it was like 180 new? Super cheap but shockingly well built for that money.

Colin react rib points for the first person to identify the sticker I added.

you should replace that sticker with a foundry music logo. otherwise people will see that G and deduce that it must stand for gay, i'm afraid.

I don't play electrics. I always end up spending more time fucking around with dials than actually playing. I just want to strum my guitar and sing.

I’m too self conscious in my apartment to do that much, electric is nice because you can just play through headphones.

It’s just easier too and the distortion masks sloppy playing.

Wwaw the fender jag stang?

It’s my fave guitar to play. I’m too poor to waste the money buying one now though.
I have one. It's a wall hanger. I'm not crazy about it. It plays great it's just not my kind of thing. It's so small it kind of seems like you're playing a guitar for girls.

this is the sort of stuff I like playing. It’s simple but so catchy, it’s difficult to keep it steady for the whole song, I don’t have that natural sense of timing but I just like doing it to take my mind off things, same reason I build warhammer models.

Similar to some Duran Duran bass lines and maybe other 80s stuff like OMD. Look into it!

I have feminine small hands, I love it for that reason, you can play chords and it just feels weightless. I can’t really play intricate riffs or finger style / fancy strumming patterns.

I just play chords.

I'm sick in the head when it comes to basses and guitars. I've got a massive collection. I've got guitars I've bought that I've never played. I've got a bunch of tube amps, a few I haven't even turned on since I tested them at purchase. I've got two huge bass rigs - your typical 8x10 and then this stadium rig that is all rack gear. I dunno what it is about this useless overpriced junk, but I fucking love collecting and cataloging it. I don't even really play anymore - though I'm still a fucking monster on bass (kinda in the same vibe like Wooten, Miller, etc).

I know a dude that is right handed that has a collection of only left handed guitars and basses. Cool shit too, the Noel Gallagher Epiphone and shit.

I impulse bought a ~$90 Mitchell short scale last year because I always wanted to learn the bass, but I'm still just at the clumsy fiddling stage. Got a "teach yourself to play" booklet as well, but clearly I'm not a very good teacher. I want to get lessons, but spending almost twice as much on a decent hardcase to transport it has kept me from doing that. Someone call me a faggot and motivate me, or maybe suggest beginner-friendly sources.
You don't need a hardcase for a $90 instrument. Get a padded gigbag. It's a mass produced cnc made guitar, not a stradivarius. You could probably drag it around by the strap everywhere you go and it won't make much difference to its overall sound or playability. Plus those extra steps of putting your guitar away in its case and then getting it out every time you want to play don't seem like much but they are definitely hindrances to practicing when you are starting and just practising more is the single best and quickest route to getting better. Lots of new musicians have a kind of reverence for playing like its some magic skill reserved for the creatively talented which is just not true. The biggest dumbdumbs on the planet can get very good at the guitar literally just by practising for like an hour every single day. It can be hard to notice incremental improvements for the player themselves, but I guarantee if you pick any little piece of music, record yourself playing it for half an hour every day for a week and when you listen back to the take from day 7 will be better than day 1.

I had one years ago and the neck was wonderful, but too many of the rest of the design choices are utterly retarded and it's easily the shittiest member of the offset family. It wasnt even that expensive then, but not really worth the cost nowadays unless you really want one just to have it, especially when you could get a Squier jag, mustang and a jazzmaster for about the same total cost. The switches are fucking stupid. The pickups are super disappointing and need changing anyway. The body is weighted weirdly. It has really bad tuning stability. The dynamic vibrato is a pain in the ass and completely unnecessary. I don't think there are any other fenders with that exact neck spec which is a shame because its really nice to play, they just never fixed the design before he died and just released it anyway because people wanted the Cobain guitar. I eventually put emg 85/81s in the one I had and that just made it even shittier and more retarded. I traded it for a cyclone which was way more pfg.

I just wanna play driving chords like nirvana, or jangly chords like smiths / joy division. What’s best, mustang or jazz master? I know I want one of these guitars but I’m not sure which. I don’t really know what they all cost anymore, I’m out the loop big time.

Id personally say Jazzmaster. They are both great but youll definitely need to play them to decide which tradeoffs you want to make. They feel very different. You can get a decent squier for sub 500 so you could even get both for the price of a jagstang. I really like their j mascis jazzmaster. For the money it's actually awesome. Mustangs are quite a bit brighter than Jazzmasters and have a smaller neck so it feels dinkier to play. And the trem on the mustang isnt nearly as good but its still a great guitar. Jaguars are probably the jangliest and they've got little mustang necks too, but if i had to choose between one of those two i'd probably go mustang. I think Mustangs look nicer but the Jazzmasters easily have the best pickups. It really does come down to how they feel though. Cobain mostly recorded with a strat, and a lot of the early Johnny Marr jangle was from a Tele or a Rickenbacker. I always think its way better getting a guitar that can ballpark the sound you want and feels nice and then putting the bulk of the budget in a good amp.

I feel like im always sucking squiers dick but they are so good now for the money. I remember when squiers were actual worthless garbage you'd be embarrassed to own. Its truly a golden age for guitars.
Not to mention that Fender has outsourced any interesting guitar ideas to Squier, while they continue to pump out $3000 telecasters and strats with limited edition 70th anniversary fake wear and tear
