I think it's a very good show but it got quite meandering for me after a while. Perhaps not too surprising given it had like 8 seasons and a huge recurring cast but it started to feel a bit soapish. Main character development dropped or glossed over, subplots that served little purpose, contrived dramatic arcs for some of the most ancillary of characters. Just quite a few odd narrative focus choices that don't really work.
The acting, production and writing is quality enough that none of that shit really harms it too bad, but it's something that definitely would've necked a series that's weaker in those departments. It's also one of the reasons why I've been more hesitant to rewatch Mad Men in full than I am with a lot of other shows I like, the filler kinda seems a daunting prospect having gone through it once before.
