Someone here once cited that there was a study where SciFi appeals to Utopia seekers because there’s seemingly no laws. Pretty much it stated that Utopias would basically turn into cesspools of pedophilia.

I don't think it's so much that, but they were than likely entitled to some of the $50k per Doe if they somehow won the suit.
