But seriously folksh. Any guitar playing brothamen here with some tips for a beginner? I can easily play power chords and I'm a drummer, so I at least have decent musicality, but I can't just pick up a guitar and play something that sounds good on its own. Should I look up instruction videos or what?
Been playing for 20 years. Just look up tabs of your favorite band's songs and start trying to play them. You'll suck at first but eventually you'll get an entire song down well enough to play it with the actual record and most get pretty hooked from there.
If you want to speed up the process, start practicing scales whenever your hands are free. You'll probably hear a lot of people repeat this because it's really the most reliable way to learn the instrument quickly.
Watching TV? practice scales. Long work call that you don't actually need to be on? Mute the mic and practice scales. Staring straight ahead at the wall trying to pinpoint the moment that the wheels really fell off your life and lead you to become the worthless piece of shit you currently are? Practice minor scales to give it a backing song.
But most importantly, just stick with it and play as often as you can. Don't let frustration obscure your ability to see the progress you've made.
