Up until "Casino Royale", they've played this whole game of no matter the actor, every Bond is the same guy. Fine. Actors get replaced. That God-awful Doctor Who has done it for decades.

Sometime after Casino Royale - maybe between Quantum of Solace and Skyfall - they decided, with QoS bring a continuation of Casino Royale, that Craig's movies were going to be one big serialized narrative, its own thing. They started at the beginning, so why not? CR was inspired by Batman Begins, and around the time of Skyfall, Marvel and their stupid fucking continuous narrative was the big thing (still is sadly), it made commerical sense.

So you do the one thing you've never done with Bond: you give him an ending. And you kill him. As long as you do it entertainingly, perhaps even "right", I again say... Fine. I don't care, it's fiction.

But after this, where do you go?

Brosnan was already a re-evaluation of the character in the 90's; softer but just enough edge. Hell, he cried in The World Is Not Enough, which the press made a big deal out of (forgetting he cried when his wife is killed at the end of On Her Majesty's Secret Service). Craig just went further, and further, with each movie, until we get to this one where he's an inadvertent Dad and a retiree. I'm not even against someone taking the 007 nomenclature after his retirement - it makes sense - but what's the fucking endgame here?

I almost wonder if they're scared shitless of what to do with the character now in this current climate. Nearly 60 years of continuous films, and all that money, now at stake because:

A. The current climate is a fucking nightmare of eggshells to walk on (by Hollywood's choice, I believe)

B. Amazon bought the distributor of Bond, MGM

C. EON Productions, and the Broccoli family in general, have been willing to alter the formula with time to keep making money on the one valuable thing they have ownership to - but how do you alter it now?

I also believe this is the case to kill bond off, for decades multiple actors have played bond and audiences accepted it. It became just a normal concept that an actor plays bond but will eventually be replaced. Recently the “No time to die” director made news for claiming the character of bond was a rapist for the majority of the movies which made me think they would pull something like they did with killing bond. The ones in charge are too scared of the woke crowd so it was time to kill off the old out of touch bond character. This way bond is dead and now it can be some new woke & diversity friendly spy that only fights white villains based on republicans. George Lazenby quit after 1 bond movie because he felt Bond would be considered out of touch and outdated due to Easy Rider changing movies and the culture in 1969. Turns out it took the progressive woke crowd to finally kill Bond.

I mean, there's no denying with the different standards then compared to know, Bond did take advantage of women - not all though. Rape might be a little strong... Though Goldfinger kinda backs that up.

I don't know. They're just fucking movies, but I have a soft spot for them because my Father and I connected with them.

I will say this: there's a reason they never went ahead with the Jinx spin-off, and that's because people do like James Bond. If they don't bring him back, what's the bloody point?

The intent is the issue here. There ARE people in this forum that want to see the new Venom and James Bond - call me gay, but for differing reasons I am one of those - and I don't care if it's spoiled for me. I love a good story, even if it's obvious (or not obvious) what the ending is. But to others, it ruins the ride, like if you spoiled The Sixth Sense when it came out.

We're all brothermen here. We don't respect Rick, but I think for the most part we respect each other. I'm open about my love of old Cinema - to some, that makes me an "artsy fag". But, I like what I like and stand behind it.

These woke reboots are always shit, because they take what people like and replace it rather than build on it with new ideas (looking at you, Cuntbusters). If you want a black lady Bond, just keep putting in 003s and 005s until you find one with the necessary physicality and charisma, and then spin them off into their own series.
