Is Stanhope worth seeing in 2023?

I usually get a friend tickets to see something entertaining together for their birthday, and Stanhope is doing a theater show in my city. Is he still worth seeing, or no? I'm neutral to positive on Stanhope's stuff, and I doubt my friend has heard any of his stuff before.

Agreed. I've seen him 3 or 4 times. One time he killed, one time he was so-so but still had moments, and third time he was shitfaced and basically bombed but made fun of everyone for being at an Indian casino. You could do a lot worse.

He hosted his own show which was a weird choice and he was obviously hammered but Morgan Murphy opened for him and she was amazing too. I forget what special the material ended up in but it’s the one with the Indians being too weak to rape so they have to do it in a group bit.

I can’t speak for his personal beliefs. He did a special where he was wearing a baseball jersey where it said “libertarian” on the back but I really doubt he would get annoyingly political in his stand up. However, he is very much into the wet brain stage so who knows.

No problem. It might be good but I don’t watch a lot of standup so I can’t give too many recommendations. Maybe Big Jay, Atell, Bobby, or Vos. Those are the main comics I can think of that would for sure be good. Colum Tyrrell is younger than them but he’d probably be good too

I saw him well before Covid (and the later stages of wetbrain) so he might be insufferable now. I will say he seemed less and less the Stanhope I loved each time I saw him so he may have fallen off a cliff totally.

Stanhope was not only my favorite comedian, he was my favorite human until 2020 when he started mask shaming people on his podcast, which I used to listen to always as soon as it came out. Huge disappointment. Figured I'd check back in on him a little later when he went on Rogan, maybe he had wizened up or Rogan would explain some shit to him, and right out the gate he started talking about getting the tard-shot. None of this is a reason to hate the guy, but I don't care to hear what a moron has to say about anything and I sure ain't coming to one for insight. This is coming from a guy that loved all his specials, saw him as much as possible, bought his books, listened to him on everything he ever did, wrote a song about him, even hung out and recorded a podcast with him.

Does he talk about any of this in his current act? I doubt he would lean that heavily into it if at all, I'd imagine he's probably not talking about that shit and can probably still be funny occasionally. I will say even before this nonsense started his last special, I believe his still most recent one in Vegas at the Plaza, that I was there for was the first one that didn't have any great shit in it.
