This was the milestone where Anthony realized he needed Opie, and his resentment grew from that.
Exactly. That whole ordeal really proved exactly how pathetic Anthony is. There is one specific moment that really stands out to me.

At one point during the confrontation, a distraught Anthony jumps in to crack a passive aggressive jab at Opie by going to a call in the middle of the argument. The caller would quickly flop, grinding the conversation to a halt.

Fortunately Ronnie, having spent years leading a show and arguing with his emotional cohost at the same time, told Anthony to dump the call.

Of course Anthony immediately obliged because he was on the verge of having a panic attack. He acknowledged that he needed leadership from someone else on his own show.

Opie took bad calls and had people fight on air all the time but he never lost control or panicked. He kept his cool despite his awful cohost and talentless third mic actively trying to sabotage him.

So it goes far beyond him just needing Opie. He is incapable of even applying what he learned from him over their 20 years together.

No wonder Opie negotiated the contracts.
