Why would he want to remember her that way even though he can block out the memory with booze and forced laughter like all the other memories that are more painful and embarrassing? I think the mother is being selfish not to consider nana's point of view here.

The Cumios are horrible people, obviously, but this point never really bothered me. If your mom gets to the point where she no longer has any idea who you are and doesn’t care if you’re there or not then what’s the point of visiting her?
