I rly appreciate the thorough advice man. Ill prob end up just getting the $3 a month because its a matter of time one of my kids fucks up the whole network like you were saying. Youd think 99% if this would just be common sense but like i said, i didnt even know id didnt have Mcafee. The computer is 100% stock. Straight off the walmart shelf. Thats how it got me. It has windows defender but i didnt even know that haha. 99.99% of the time im on my phone or my work computer and that has everything automatically already set up for me. I dont use my personal laptop, ever. Its an “Aspire”, which i think my wife got me for like $150/200. It’s literally just a bigger screen than my phone for me when i watch fights on Sat nights or jerk off to pornhub here and there. Thats all ive ever used it for. Its not much good for anything else. Cant play games on it. I DID download steam but never did anything with it. I dont think this POS would even work with the vast majority of games. But im glad i didnt keep clicking and instead just embarrassed myself and posted it here. Last i was aware, laptops automatically came with Mcafee on them hahaPersonally I’d pay for Malwarebytes because it comes with web protection that automatically blocks those popups from showing. The biggest threat nowadays is ransomware which can easily enter your computer through a “drive-by” download, in which you’re unaware that it’s even happening. If you’re unlucky enough for it to be self-replicating, then every device on your network could become infected and you’ll lose everything. Not trying to scare anyone, it’s just a fact nowadays.
I’ve been on their $3/month plan for well over a decade, and it’s well-worth the saved headache. I have a bachelor’s in cybersecurity and do this type of stuff for a living, and even I wouldn’t go on the internet without a functional antivirus.
