Anthony's vacations were Disneyworld, renaissance fairs, renting supercars, AC casinos, and booze cruises. He lived like a spic or a nigger that won the scratch-off lottery and blew it all on a one week escapade. He never escaped his trashy upbringing despite the millions pouring in. Whenever he would relate his vacation tales to the O&A audience it was told from the perspective of a child whose parents had taken him on vacation. "I got to go to the renaissance fair and watch the jousting!!". Meanwhile he was a 55-year-old alcoholic manchild masquerading and larping as a straight man. He was out acting all of the entertainers at the fair by pretending to be straight.

Opie's vacations resembled those of an 90-year-old retired WWII veteran. Going fishing in the middle of nowhere. Playing 50 rounds of golf in one week. And staying home and mumbling to himself about viral videos whilst his family desperately hoped that his will and estate were signed off by the lawyers and two witnesses. Instead of taking his family to Europe or the best parts of America he is spending seven hours at a Burger King with a 350lbs monstrosity beast woman filming her moaning to herself as she gorges on a cheeseburger in his failed quest to become youtube famous.

Norton's vacations were him either traveling to Los Angeles to eat at his favorite sushi restaurant with Kenny as his bodyguard. Or staying home and hiring $10,000 worth of hookers and dominatrices to shit on his chest. And eating egg white and mustard omelets by himself whilst psychotically staring at his collection of worthless celebrity photos and autographs. Mumbling under his breath with pure rage and fury and seething that Derek Jeter never autographed his framed poster all those years ago.

Opie has never left the tri-state area and a vacation for him is going to Westchester to watch his wife get fucked by one of the Margeras.

Opie has been to almost every single state in this country. He drove through every one of them in 2002-2004. Meanwhile, Anthony was sitting at home building toys and computers.

You're such a stupid, boring white nigger with a one-track mind. Opie lives in your gay head, rent free. You project all the hate you have for yourself onto Opie, to the extent you can't even use things that actually apply to Opie (like never leaving the northeast, which is the weirdest lie you've ever told right next to pretending you're hetero.)

You are such a faggot.

Opie's desperation to go viral made absolutely zero sense. Nigga had a platform that reached millions and he was getting paid atleast $3 million a year to work 30 hours a week. Dummy couldn't figure out that damn near all of the youtube stars are fucking young and they're curated. I doubt very many of them organically became famous (there's a few that have). He should have been happy with satellite radio and maybe working on a podcast when they had a legitimate audience.

Opie went on a med cruise and went to Greece.
Jim I think has been to Ireland I think. Also, didn't he go to Iceland or Norway to see his one true love? I forget if he went there

Yep. IIRC, it was Bill Burr who convinced Jim to go and tour Europe. He played shows in a few countries IIRC

Also, obviously, Jim Norton's "signature bit" would be basically unknown if it wasn't for the fact that Opie was there to hear it in Montreal Canada, and basically goaded The Worm into doing it on the show

First time he did "Monster Rain" on the radio, you could tell Jimmy was uncomfortable doing it. Whether that was out of embarrassment or some weird obsession about repeating jokes is anyone's guess.

I think it was a hubris thing. He wanted to show management that he could do a better job than their marketing department.

His viral video shit was 1000% his attempt at validation that HE was the brains/force behind O&A and not merely riding Ant/Jim's coattails.

10/29/2008 - Just happened to be listening to this show today and Opie is stressing about his wedding and conversation eventual leads to traveling and where he's been. He mentions a couple places in Greece and mentions being in Istanbul to wait in line to see Muhammeds beard hair. That's only the first 20 minutes of the show. Further updates as I continue to listen! (Yes, I have been spending the past year and half going through every show from 2008 since I didn't start listening originally till 2011)

I remember the show where Bill tried to convince him and Worm was enraging in it. Burr's telling how much fun he had over there and after being completely silent for like an hour Norton pipes up after Burr and delivers a whiny, ill-informed speech on how everyone on the other side hates Americans and he refuses to even contemplate going over there. Bill, just coming back from the fucking place, easily poked holes in all his dumbshit objections but the nematode remained obstinate.

Then in typical Worm fashion, he went back on his word when the winds changed and he realized how much money and success his former peers who did regularly tour outside of America were gaining on him, so he tried to hop on the bandwagon and failed miserably because he stinks at comedy.

All the comedians of that era who rose to the top (Burr, CK, Chappelle, Chris Rock) did so for two primary reasons: 1. they were actually good at what they did, and 2. they had common sense when it came to business. Subparagraph number 1 of that latter category was being able to recognize the existence and importance of the foreign market at a time when corporate America was too short-sighted to (now it's the exact opposite). All these dude still tour Europe on a regular basis, for CK it was almost the only steady gig he could get for a while. I think he was scheduled to perform in Kiev when the fucking Russians invaded lmao.

Another, more reasonable factor was his desire to promote da show in itself. I think that, despite not really inderstanding the medium itself all that well, Opie was at least smart enough to see how the Internet could help serve the radio show and worked to mesh it into the framework of fanbase at an early stage. Then as the 2000s rolled along and the Internet quickly ballooned to not only rival but easily surpass radio's popularity, and the failure of the O&A brand to match that growth, only caused the Opester's interest to turn into a frustrated fixation, and finally an obsession that had become divorced from the reality of the situation somewhat.

His reasoning was probably that people who'd see a viral OpieRaqio video would be likely to linger and become subscribers to the show, not fully comprehending that that kind of old school marketing thinking doesn't really apply to the Internet of the time. A recurring sad irony of the Destroyer's career is that he possessed a spark of cunning and savvy but it was always marred by his autism. A man whose ambitions and ideas were doomed to be outpaced and crippled by his personality defects. But then again, haven't I just described every man?
