I'll never understand these band dudes. Get all dressed up in your dumb pseudo-costume stage clothes and rock out your best original tunes for a bunch of 50 something rubes who couldn't give less of a fuck.
... I'll let something slip about me - I'll do pick up gigs as a bassist for local coverbands sometimes. I'm a really good bassist, so it's nice to show off every so often to a crowd, but I couldn't imagine being in my 30s and trying to "make it." Sad.

That’s the sad part, if you play a weekend here and there while having a real job that’s not bad. But if you’re in your mid 30s and still trying to “make it” while playing weeknight non-cover charge bar gigs to 20 people who are ignoring you it’s time to stop. Especially when most people want to go to a bar to hear music they know, not your shitty sublime rip off band. At least trivia nights at bars get a crowd, not a band of pathetic white guys close to 40 pretending they are just about to break…any day now…yep…just you wait…
