While I think the whole trial is a joke I really think the worst part is how the news is pretending a wealthy man paying off people to be quiet is shocking and not something that hasn’t been done forever. Politicians had multi-million dollar slush fund that was just for paying to people to be quiet and that barely made headlines. Same with paying to make stories go away - shit has been going on forever yet because it’s Trump NOW it’s a serious problem.

I remember in Philly when they first put casinos in the city the news would report often about kids being left in the car so the parent could go gamble. Then those casinos became sponsors and those stories magically went away.

Like Clinton basically did this exact thing, so why wasn’t THAT illegal? It probably was but different from the way this was illegal. Clinton had Lewinsky sign an affidavit swearing she didn’t fuck him. That was obviously false and she would have been convicted of perjury if she didn’t agree to cooperate with the Star investigation. Could Clinton have been prosecuted for that? Probably not, as there was no paper trail. Was it breaking election law? Probably not, as this all occurred after he had been elected to his second term.

But this is illegal in a different way. Daniels NDA / statements were not the same as the affidavit Lewinsky signed. No perjury so she can’t be held liable. Cohen DID go to jail over these exact hush money deals. And the only reason Trumps now being implicated, unlike Clinton, is because there is both a paper trail and secret recordings showing he was basically heading all this.

I’m more just annoyed at the coverage and how the media is making it sound like this kinda of thing hasn’t been done for decades. Like how media didn’t run with Hunter laptop stuff before the election and we were told it was all “Russia dis-information” but now they’re pretending someone who is running for office is paying to keep stories that make them look bad quiet is something that has never been done.

Like I said, they had a multi-million slush fund in DC just for those in politics to pay people off - but that was a story that made both sides look bad so it barely got attention. Same with how about a year ago they had over 50 major politicians failing PAD procedures (that’s where they are disclosing whenever they buy / sell stock) but since it was people on both sides it barely made news.
