Did bars used to be fun?

I'm too much of an alcoholic and too easily pissed off by strangers to enjoy bars. Even with pregaming I can never get drunk enough and the first time someone bumps me or eyeballs me I call them on it and it's a fight or a big dumb scene. I like to get shitfaced by myself for a fraction of the price and without the risk of going to jail.

Not that I've never had fun at a bar though. Not even that long ago I used to enjoy being a rowdy bully.

When I cared about sports, sports bars were fun if the local teams were winning.
Real dives could be fun but could also be depressing. The hipstery faux dives they have now suck ass.
College bars usually sucked.
Beach bars are cool, and it was funny to be hit on by drunk cougars.
I always hated clubs, but I still went if that's what the group decided. I ended up getting smashed and dancing poorly with some chick that looked good in bad lighting.
The live music bars were ok if the cover band was decent, meaning no Cumia types.
Microbreweries can be good if they are not too pretentious about it.

I wanna hang with you Abe I think I’d really get a chuckle out these public scenarios

I'm old. Back in the early 90s (when I was in my early 20s) there were bars everywhere and everyone went to them. Friday and Saturday were obviously the 2 biggest nights but that was really the best place to go to meet girls since there was no online dating/smartphones/etc. People actually went out and talked to each other. Lately it seems that even in the bars that are left, everyone is looking at their phone at least half the time. Things don't seem to be as genuinely fun as they used to be, but I'm an old fuck so what do I know. Just give me my container of coffee and my lunch pail so I can go to the jobsite.

I've started going out on my own from time to time and find it better then going with a group of people. If I go in a place and it sucks I'll throw down a drink and go to the next place. More often than not I will eventually find some half decent looking chick with a nice cock to who will hang out with me and let me buy her a couple drinks. Good way to pick up some STDs, so take your prep.

I'm assuming that every bar in the 80s was exactly like Roadhouse, so I would say yes. Nowadays you're better off staying home, jacking off, cleaning your room, grilling a plain t-bone and eating a handful of benzos.

Britain used to have a genuine 'pub culture', they were spread throughout communities & everyone had their 'local'. It's been dying-out for 10+ years. Only town centre ones survive now & it's a different vibe.

I grew up in Northeast PA and it seemed like there was a bar every couple of blocks or so. My grandfather owned one. It really was just all neighborhood guys in there. Some would come in right after work and others would come in after dinner. Gradually they started closing and now it's about the same as Britain I guess. There are a few bigger bars but I don't think they have the clientele the old ones did.

One thing that did survive for the most part were the social clubs. Those are still around. Basically private bars.

I used to go to this dive bar close to me but I made the mistake of overtipping the fat cunt bartender because it was her birthday and now when she sees me walk in, she'll call out my name real friendly like and get me a drink without asking what I want. Stupid smiling bitch.

Tonight im drinking alone at my place because (Cheers theme) "Sometimes I want to go where nobody knows my name."
