This is literally exactly what I'm doing. Not deliberately taking myself off the grid, but buying a cheap farm on an island somewhere in the South Pacific with solar panels and livestock and everything I need to survive so that IF the shit hits the fan, all I need to do is unplug. Having a remote job that affords me the ability to live thousands of miles away is extremely useful.
