I’m gonna buy a cabin in the woods during the impending economic downturn so I’m going to need some pointers.

it’s weird how few nice log cabins are for sale, I keep looking at real estate listings. Might have to get one built I guess.
The market may appear bleak right now because so many like-minded people are abandoning the cities. Prices have skyrocketed even for raw land with no well or septic (or even a proper way to get onto the parcel). But there is a lot of land out there and people willing to sell it so it's whatever bottom line you're comfortable with. I won't tell you to wait until the housing bubble pops because at this rate, who knows when it will what with so many people moving to the country.

I don't know where you're looking but be mindful that if it is in a fast-growing area it could be 18 months before you can get a well professionally dug because of the backlog. If you can afford something with water and septic already approved or dug you are ahead of the game.

Most contractors are backlogged too so if you feel up to it, building yourself a log cabin is an option. Noah Bradley has a great channel about that (link). Learn what makes a log cabin good before you buy (quality of the chinking, etc.).

that's so sad honestly. women have fought so hard and come so far. as someone who's been in a domestic violence situation, i can't imagine just submitting to a man it feels too vulnerable. i come from one of those crazy religions where women cover their heads and wear long skirts and are considered unclean

It would need to be within 100 miles or so of DC so realisticly probably in the Shanandoah area or in WV somewhere. And zero chance I’d do it myself, I’ll need to pay real men to do it for me like a pussy. It’s no rush though so whenever a good opportunity presents itself I’m up for it. I haven’t really started seriously look at shit yet, it’s more like browsing for fun at this point. It doesn’t need to be too fancy or big or a huge plot of land. Just want a nice view and enough privacy that I don’t see or hear anyone else around. Not looking to be way out in the middle of nowhere, it’s mostly just to get away and unwind for the weekend.

If you're really planning on doing that, I'd highly recommend getting a place on or near water. There's only so much sitting around a campfire that you can do without getting bored.

Right with ya, buddy. I just go to three websites regularly and random artists' pages. I've never owned a smartphone and never will. As soon as we build a habitable cabin on the land we recently bought we're out. We'll have internet so my husband can continue his remote gig but we'll be solar and haul water for perhaps a year until we get a well dug (contractors have potential customers on a long waiting list).

If I ever want to learn more about the Jews I've got tons of ebooks to read but yeah, I get it. Gonna focus on reading my gardening and chicken books because we are going to sustain ourselves and try to become real humans like we're meant to be.

Edit: And get as many plastics out of your life as possible. Replace them with glass, wood, and metal.

They discovered microplastic fibers in the air around the Rocky Mountains. It's all getting into the soil and water. We're so fucked.

OH! You were finished? WELL ALLOW ME TO RETORT!

I think you're spot on here. Even if we go into a major recession, we're not going to see a 2008 collapse. You didn't even get into general inflation either

@JerkStoreJ - this might be the reason why you're not seeing many log cabins in the DMV area

could be. Like I said I haven’t really done much research other than browsing some listings here and there on the weekends. It’s hard to figure out what would be a good spot. Ideally I’d have a reliable agent doing that for me but real estate agents are all worthless sacks of shit who don’t provide any service any more other than listing your shit on a website or filling out some form contracts.

Yes. unreal it was 4.28/gal in Michigan. So about $5.95 USD a gallon in Ontario with exchange rate factored. Around 40% more for Ontario and the sick retarded CBSA guard who didn't understand their own rules kept telling me my positive test, which was actually my daughter's that I used as mine to negate the need for entry testing was not sufficient and I needed a negative test. My 2 sons had their tests from Friday and I had a positive from March 27th which is supposedly good for 6 months, but he insisted it wasn't. He kept saying just get vaccinated and I kept saying well that's never happening, then he told me about my body language because my arms were crossed and I said, sure I'm pissed they're paying you and you don't even know the fucking worthless rules they have you enforcing. I also said "when your heart explodes in 3 years I'll be laughing" and that you're telling me to get one without a medical degree to just comply, because it doesn't stop transmission for a virus that didn't harm me, why would I do that? He never asked about what I was bringing in told me, "I'm done with you" and slammed his window shot lol. His name was Fitzpatrick and he was definitely Francophone and an asshole at the Sarnia port of entry. Worst one in 2 plus years since I've been pissing on their covid rules. My oldest son didn't record and should have know to, but in fairness was worried lol.
