Based on the information Quasi has leaked so far (which is fuck all, nice professionalism stupid), I'm pretty sure the Asian lawyers have anticipated all that and that is probably why the SFWA spent $6,000 trying to quash the subpoena. They will likely be on the hook for it. Just a guess, though. Pat is fat.

I'm not an accountant, but if there is a lien (which is seems there is some argument there), on the actual property, then he can't refinance again. I think he technically can, but no lender would do that. @Martin comment? The judgement won't go away for at least 20 years, at which point, since they can't refinance or take a second mortgage they have to pay into principal. That equity will come eventually. The only option on the mortgage there is to just not pay and go into default, then the bank will own the house, at that point its a gray area. That would be his only option, from what I can tell.

He can spend his money if he wants, but eventually Quasi will determine how he is spending money and then can just go after wherever that source is. he won't be able to get any mama raven money, or mama Robinson stipends. He can't use a credit card or buy any physical property. He would have to pay all cash, and anything bought would need to be temporary. Trips, concerts, flights, meals etc. He can't have any savings, any stocks, and bank accounts and he can't have any assets.

He'd have to sell his car and bike quickly. Niki would need to sell a car, jewelry, artwork, or anything valuable quickly as well. Any furniture, video game consoles.

All that and he would have to forfeit any minuscule royalties he's getting. So Quasi would just levy that 40 bucks a year. Rick could never sell another book without Quasi owning the royalties or advance.


Remember too, that in Wisconsin Pig's debts are Nicole's debts. So in addition to all that for Rick, Niki has to follow that as well. So yes, hypothetically they can do that if they both:

• Default on their mortgage and get evicted
• Trash their entire credit score for 30 years
• Not have any income including any money as gifts, loans or anything.
• Pay for everything in cash and close all bank accounts. Can not have checking accounts. Can not have any equity in any assets. Can not have any credit cards.
• Any money they do receive somehow is spent immediately
• Do all of this without also committing tax fraud, consumer fraud, bankruptcy fraud, or any other number of crime and torts around this type of thing.

This is not a typical case. You can make yourself "judgement proof" on purpose if you want and essentially be homeless, never having more than 10k in property at any time. Never having a job over minimum wage. Sure I guess.
