Can anyone remember that heinously bad Metallica album with Lou Reed?

He's great. Even his dogshit Tragic Band albums have some passable songs. His album with Zappa called Bongo Fury is uneven and disappointing in terms of what it could of been, but Deborah Kadabra is killer.
My brotherman, thank you. He's an acquired taste, but he's heads and shoulders above a lot of these "artists". I like Zappa from what I've seen in interviews, but I don't care about his music. Too self-aware for liking. Same with Lou Reed - I like some of his songs, but fuck him he's overrated.

To me Captain Beefheart is like outsider music done properly, most likely thanks to the musicians who played behind him, as well as Frank Zappa producing him.

Case in point, there's a real naive beauty to these two tracks that brings out the faggot in me.

What's wild is that some of the most difficult Beefheart albums like Trout Mask Replica are very intentional. They rehearsed non stop to sound like an earthquake interrupted their recording. Beefheart was an interesting guy like Zappa. They grew up together as kids. Beefheart is one part bullshit artist and one part deliberate outsider artist. He was somewhat of a spoiled rich kid and when he tells his story it's very much tall tales and bullshit fluff. Everything he did was thought out and planned.

Hit #1 in Sweden and Norway, Americans taste in music is so dogshit. I think it was Bryan Ferry who said that European audiences engage with art and weird stuff which is why stuff like that can be big in Europe but not in America where they just want a catchy chorus.

I don't know about that. Europe has some real dogshit ideas on what quality is, but I do believe that there is a more open mindedness. Pop music world wide is almost always vapid calculated nonsense.

Metallica is the original Nirvana . A bunch of retarded doped out junkies playing the most simplistic music ever with 0 knowledge of how to actually make music. Their lyrics are so unbelievably childish they make Black Sabbath look mature. I expected Danny of all people to defend Metallica not someone on here. They just…they just fucking suck.

However every bass player they’ve ever had has always been the most talented band member, mainly because they come into the band knowing theory while the rest of them like to noodle around with their instruments.
stop speaking with so much authority on every topic lol

I'm not as old as some of the folks here, but the impression I got as a youngster in the 2000s was that Metallica was music for weenies. Not bad or anything, but the atmosphere surrounding the band wasn't anywhere near as cool as they'd like to present it. It didn't help that Lars Ulrich is a faggot extraordinaire.

Growing up in a post-culture world. Nothing is good because liking things is gay.
Yeah. I, an onaforums user, can't imagine anyone thinking like that.
