1. Leave the earth
2. Land on the moon successfully
3. Launch the remaining craft OFF the moon
4. Land on Earth successfully from the moon

What you're saying is that if we can do step 1 (which no one is debating), obviously we can do steps 2-4 also.

Yes. Because step 1 requires 50 other steps that could be reasonably figured out if you went through all the effort of completing step 1. Even in the boiled down steps of 2-4 it isn’t as complicated as completing step 1 which is getting it off of Earth.

You have a lot of faith in Science Man but it's far more complicated than just "hit the target". Especially when you are doing it with living people. The radiation alone makes it almost impossible to leave the magnetosphere and survive. You also need to land intact on the moon which requires intense fuel consumption and precision to throttle the landing. Obviously this has been done with modern, unmanned ships, but not with anything that can even remotely be equipped to take off. And coming back to the Earth from space would result in a burnup many times hotter than just coming in from orbit.
