As a guy who flies in and out of DCA 2x a week, I've always found it somewhat alarming how often helicopters fly in close proximity to the airport's airspace. Marine Helicopter Squadron 1 alone is constantly ferrying between destinations in the DC area and they're based just across the Potomac.

I bet you 2 things:
1) Army Aviation is going to come out of this looking really bad.
2) The CRJ pilots had more hours than the UH-60 guys.
