The bible is meant to be read with a mentor. The same way we call Hollywood actors “stars” and save data in a “cloud” there’s context that needs to be conveyed. They’ll be smug atheists in 2000 years who think we thought famous people were celestial bodies and the clouds spoke to us.

Even if you aren’t religious, the bible contains thousands of years of wisdom condensed into beautiful verses. It’s worth studying and I’m glad you read it, even if you don’t believe.
How much of the Bible have you read? And which translation?

I read a little bit each morning and then reflect on it throughout the day. I’m not interested in reading it back to front as fast as I can for the sake of it.

I want to absorb it. I’ve got NIV/KJB/ESV at home and I canvas opinion on different versions often because I don’t know enough to say which is “best”

“Best” Is reading the translation notes along with the passages. King James has nicest wording but is the least “accurate”. The rest are much of a muchness, NIV can be a bit dry/stilted but I think it’s been revised since I read it.

So the word of god was translated into Latin then English and now needs to be dumbed down for the masses by your church dad. I thought god was infallible.

If you knew you’d make a great husband for a woman, but she didn’t want you and wanted some violent nigger for some reason, what would you do if you loved her?

Would you force your way into her life against her will? No. You’d leave her alone and respect her wishes, however much they seem insane.

This is the simplest answer to your question.

Open your heart to God and you’ll get back what you put in.

There is wisdom to be had in the bible, that's for sure, but in my opinion it's more guide than law.

Then again, it's just my narrow and limited opinion, I ain't trying to convert people to our lord and savior, Bill Gates.

What is their understanding of the source of "reason"? Saying "the universe" or whatever is just an attempt to avoid acknowledging that it would require some sort of higher intelligence/power to put these laws into effect.

I'm an atheist out of uncertainty. If I pick a religion (or a God) how do I know it's the real deal and I'm not just wasting my time? Here people will advocate for Christianity (wisconsin.gov will go to bat for Islam I'm sure). I could come across an Indian tomorrow who insists that Hinduism is the way. Meet a Pagan the next day who says the same thing.

All will quote from their holy scriptures and tell me that their religion is the truth, and the only truth, and use their personal experience as a barometer because if it fits them it'll fit you too.

Personally, I find faggots like this more detestable.
