It's like... I complimented someone above me on the social hierarchy... and it just... it makes me so bloody sad you know?

You see it with the crabs and lobsters you know? A blue collar crab will compliment a big rock crab and the rock crab will be like, "What?" And it would get bloody awkward. Man it's like, social hierarchy must be respected.

What?

It's debunked dumb power move shit from the coked up 80s how to books. It's a 30 second clip out of context so giving him the benefit of the doubt.

The idea is that you don't want to make yourself look weak to a "higher status' person. In limited contexts It's true. Situations where a clear hierarchy needs to be attained in the short term. As game theory has evolved though we know this isn't the case.

In a negotiation, this is probably good advice. But even then it's so highly context dependent unless you want to autistically analyze people as a profession you'll do more harm than good. Let's say the person you're negotiating with is someone you need a long term relationship with. Building a long standing rapport is the better play.

The current idea is to mix compliments, teasing, self deprecation and sincerity on a spectrum depending on the context.

I'm aware this post is more verbosely homosexual than peterson which is ironic...but I don't care my posts don't go over I don't care....
