The quick google I did suggests they make a new version every year; it's just they go nowhere because no one cares.

The BBC did one in 2019 - Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Andy Serkis, 7.2/10 on IMDB, shown on BBC America and FX, and on Hulu right now - and I hadn't heard of it because no one cares.

Pat'll be fine, though. I'm sure it's only the premise that's hackneyed, not his story or prose.

(He's going to fuck up the 19th century English, isn't he, and it'll set every high school graduate who reads it's teeth on edge.)

I think I saw that one in theaters when I was a kid. I remember that one that came after it wasn’t as good and I stopped watching muppet movies. If you grew up in the 90s pretty much every sitcom had a Christmas Carol episode. I think even Saved By The Bell had one!

I am a big muppets fan and dickens fan and american weird movie fan

the muppets also dont take away from the story at all, it isnt a corny “with zombies” combo

watch it on christmas with the fam, its a crowd pleaser

I’m so glad the “just add zombies!” Trend is over. Walking Dead was a hit so they just get lazy because they know the majority of people are stupid and will eat it up. It explains why we have TEN fast and furious movies. Funny Pat used two movies as part of his pitch that were a trend that is done.

Even funnier he picked one that is known as a commercial failure. Dummy can’t even elevator pitch right, you’re supposed to use a hit movie - for example the famous “Die Hard on A (blank)” Die Hard on a boat? Under Siege. Die Hard on a plane? Air Force One, Con Air. Die Hard on a Bus? Speed.

I bet he thinks since the muppets did it 30 years ago it’s something that will work in 2022 and will have a huge audience. Do younger people even know “A Christmas Carol”? I’m a couple years younger than Pat and knew it from the many cartoons and 80s / 90s sitcoms that had a Christmas Carol type episode. I feel like that’s one that hasn’t been seen by audiences 18-25. I remember feeling old when I learned younger people didn’t like “A Christmas Story” (it’s old!) And preferred newer Christmas movies.
I think kids still read it in school

I think they do but I don’t think they want to watch a new tv / movie adaption. I’m sure schools show then an old one in class so the kids say it’s old and boring. Younger people now won’t even watch movies from before they were born. Most the crowd that saw Joker had never seen - or even heard of Taxi Driver and King of Comedy.

Hah I saw that one!

So they recast Mrs. Cratchett as a black lady, and the big twist at the end was she was some almighty being that sent the spirits to Scrooge to teach him a lesson. They reveal the twist by having her confidently look to the camera like "yeah that's right, the one black person in this story is the supernatural boss bitch".

If he had 50 thousand genuine non-bot followers then crowd funding would be a solid option; but even he knows he can't fund a thousand-book print run with his followers.
The problem with this premise is that A) the "woke" Twitter crowd that Pat panders to are notorious for "supporting" product that ticks appropriate boxes with a tweet or two, but not supporting it financially - they don't buy anything.

And that's matched by people like Pat's approach to writing. He doesn't really want to write books - all he wants to write is tweets.

This cannibalistic cycle is what has been slowly killing the comic book industry as well. Activist writers half ass their books as not to take away time and attention from Twitter (their true passion), and activist fans retweet images and voice their support, but don't buy anything. As a result, legacy titles from powerhouse publishers are barely clearing low 5 digit numbers. People who genuinely love comics and want to break into the industry with non-propaganda books are turned away from publishers and have to resort to crowdfunding, where more often than not their sales eclipse that of the "big titles".

I think that Pat is like those comic book writers. He has no real love for the industry that he's in, and would much rather be writing on Twitter full time. Also, like them, he has no creativity, and is capable of only seeing the world through the prism of his ideology, and is incapable of crafting anything that doesn't directly reflect it.

Maybe Pat thinks having the "right opinions" is more important than any measurable form of success.

Also - Looked up the box office of those 2 movies.

Abe Vampire Hunter “mixed reviews, failed to meet expectations at the box office”

Pride and Prejudice Zombie “mixed reviews, commercial failure grossing just 16 million on budget of 28 million”

Nice pitch, stupid. Nothing says potential hit book when you compare it to a commercial failure on a trend from over 5 years ago.

What a wonderful and well thought out addition to the story! Take that, Nazis!

I think he's got that Nice Guy syndrome where he thinks pandering to others is the way to get what he wants. Like he thinks that if he's "an ally" to women, gays, POC, whatever that they'll be so overwhelmed with gratitude that they'll buy his book. Like we always joke that during the riots, blacks would cave his skull in as he shouted "I'm an ally! I support you!". He's bitter and cranky because he's living a lie and he's too stupid (1.7) to see that it's not working and he should just be himself.

I think he just desperately wants to be on a team, and noticed because he's special. He would turn on a dime and start licking Republican boots if he thought it would get him anywhere.
