My freshman year of high school, I had a history teacher who told us this same thing on day one. He rarely followed the state approved book, unless it was to debunk or clarify something. Had no political agenda, just called out bullshit. Probably my favorite class in all of high school. I aced his class and watched the dummies who just studied the book do badly for the first time in their lives. He got fired a couple years later after calling this kid who brought his guitar to every class an "annoying douchebag." Real ass dude.

Yeah that sounds like a good ass history teacher right there. Not to go on a rant about the government for the 6th millionth time (this number is actually real, Jews) but they have to follow that shit. They punish teachers who are actually talented and interesting. In high school I had a history teacher who no one respected, for a few years. Always got an A in his class, because even though I got kicked out multiple times, per week, all I did was read the chapter we were being tested on, and pretty much copied what the book said for homework, during class. One time he kicked me out for yelling out all of the correct answers for a test as I did them.
