Eastern Orthodoxy will do you well. Stay away from all these modern denominations that are a derivative of a response to a different denomination that split from the other that was a response to Catholicism which is itself just Rome leaving the real Christian church, Orthodoxy.

EO hasn't reformed or had a Vatican II or changed with the times. You won't find a bunch of awful pop music and trying to woo degenerates by compromising the truth. It seems weird and foreign and obscure at first but keep digging.

There's a lot of history, wisdom and knowledge out there that we've lost or cast aside and well, look around. How's the man made secular religion doing?

I'm down to chat and point you towards some stuff I've studied. I'm no expert, just doing the same line of thinking you are.

Or just hang out in the Beefers thread, the fuck do I care?

As someone who never visited a church regularly and only read the bible myself, I am interested in anything that can trace its roots to something that is factual or as close as possible to such. Thanks for sharing and giving me a direction to follow.

The first corpse I ever saw was when I was 15.

So I grew up protestant for whatever reason, parents were atheists but still thought sending me to non-mandatory religion class would "help".
Around 15-16 years of age, protestants go through confirmation, which catholics I think do at 7-8, symbolizing maturity.

That entailed having to go to church at least 10 times, and I didn't cheat because I thought it was kind of fascinating because I never did it.
I saw a lot of dregs of society who legitimately look like they never leave their house except for church.
I went to the first three sober, then started going in high. I highly recommend smoking weed and going to church, it's like a comedy show.

To get back to my point...
The only requirement for confirmation here is the church visits, plus attending a week-long holiday camp, imagine like boyscouts/tourism but with some religion activities. There was a pastor and two adults I guess who were there to keep him from diddling the teens.

So we went to this crematory and without any parental involvement or psychological planning, our pastor decided it was a good idea to allow "anyone who wants to check it out" to watch down the peephole into the burning chamber. There was like one girl who did and, predictably when you consider 15yo boys, once one dude started off, every single guy after also did....

So my buddy takes his turn and turns to me going "dude have you seen his hand? check it out, he's giving us the finger"
And what do you know - the burning skeleton guy was raising his forearm and his hand curled up in such a way that he really did flip the bird.

I think it psychologically damaged all of us irreversably, but we still have laughs about the dude getting to give some overly curious kids his last FU.

Off topic but I don't care.

Mel likes Him. What else is there to know?

I think learning about this stuff is best done through Orthodox or Catholic channels. All the other types are usually just Christian on the surface level, and they're quite agnostic in reality. It's the personal connection - just you, not an organisation - that's most important. Take your time, get right with that first.

I used to be a Youth Minister

I don't attend church anymore. I am big on faith but not religion. My faith is probably stronger now than it's ever been. I can assure you that God is real. If you are reading the Bible, you can see Revelation coming alive in front of you almost everyday.

Interesting point, you can also find sects of Catholicism too that still practice the Church and Sacraments prior to Vatican II/Novus Ordo mass as well if you are in most major cities. I went to a Latin Mass last night, I’ve met one of the bishops that has a good relationship with St Mel, and it’s one of the few areas of Catholicism in the US that is growing in size. Overall it’s been a positive influence in my life and gives me something to look forward to outside of making fun of a fat author with a frumpy wife.

Jesus is true and is clearly God in human form because he's miraculously been a Jew without sinning. I like the Baptists & some non-denominationals, Orthodox seem cool although I've not been around them, you don't need a pedophile priest to confess you whacked off to beefers (1 Timothy 2:5), don't worship Mary, believing in Jesus the Son and worshiping God the Father is the only true good deed in this fallen world. Amen.

Lots of wisdom in his words. Jews hate him because his insistence in detachment from the material goods and generosity. And the religion that carries his name continuously persist on garrish displays of wealth to the least fortunate.

Sadly frugality and humility doesn't attract bitches, so his teachings have fallen out of grace or perverted beyond recognition.

I wouldn't say I'm religious, but that doesn't mean I don't like Jesus.

On the contrary, whether there's truth to the stories or not, I love Jesus, even if it's just conceptual. A guy who devotes his life to helping others, dismisses attachments to items but instead values people and the concept of peace and loving one another?

Well that's PFG, knowwhatImean?
