Tldr,
Ohtanis translator “ippei” owed a bookie 4.5 million, he told the media ohtani paid his debt and had nothing to do with da gambling (two 500k wire transfers from ohtanis bank account), then ohtani’s lawyers come out and say the translator stole da monayyyy! OH!

Nice trusting a nigga with a pete rose haircut, stupid.

Cant wait to find out what the real story is when they sort through all this. Seems sketchy as fuck. Is Ippei a fall guy for Ohtanis gambling or is he a thief with a gambling problem?

Im not sure what to think about this yet. Hard to believe Ohtani could be that fucking stupid.

If it comes out that he’s actually been betting on baseball like crazy this could be the scandal of the century. Very baseball-like.
The guy with the most home runs, the guy with the most hits, and the guy wity the most Cy Young awards are all banned from the Hall, and then now the best all around player of this century would be too.

All the major sports organizations started openly endorsing gambling, a scandal of this proportion was inevitable.
There are literally giant DraftKings signs on outfield walls. If he really did bet on games he deserves to be banned, but when the league promotes it the way they do, it seems too hypocritical.
If its not this one, an event like this will eventually come out that will take gambling back to the way it was before everyone and their grandmom had a 6 leg parlay

The problem is that they bet with an illegal bookie and owed him massive amounts of money. That can obviously cause a bad situation where they leverage Otani and start making him do stuff like strike out on purpose a few times to manipulate some prop bet.

With any of the legal betting places you have to put the money up before you can place any bet, so this situation couldn’t happen. And players are allowed to hide these as long as they aren’t betting on baseball.

My prediction here is that they never find evidence that Otani himself bet on any baseball games but they’ll have to punish him for having direct dealings with a bookie. I’m going to say they give him 40-80 games to send a message but not totally ruin their new golden child. The dodgers are good enough to stay in contention without him for half the year and Otani would still have 8.5 or 9.5 years left to put this behind him. Ippei, I assume, will fall on the sword shortly and literally.

This shit doesn’t make sense. I’m no bookie expert but who the hell would let a guy making something like $300k a year run up a debt of $4.5M unless he had some “assurances”?

It’s hard to believe that the interpreter could just say Ohtani was covering him and his word is good enough for that kind of tab. And how would an interpreter even have access to that much of his employer’s money to steal? He wasn’t his lawyer or financial advisor or anything.

@Rodeo Clown WWAW this bullshit?
