According to some reports he and another male passenger literally pushed women and children out of the way to get onto a lifeboat when the ship was about fifteen minutes from sinking and there were very few remaining lifeboats. The male passenger's wife brutally detailed this in her divorce proceedings which then became public and repeated in international media. Ismay once he got onboard the Carpathia that rescued Titanic passengers immediately asked if someone had some opium for him and started using it in the captain's cabin. He was likely a drug addict before getting on Titanic.

William Randolph Hearst absolutely hated Ismay for some reason and once Titanic happened tried to drive Ismay to suicide. And he kept running newspaper stories about how much of a coward Ismay was for letting all those people die. When Ismay called him up personally to try to get the attacks to stop, Hearst was so enraged that he ordered all of his newspapers to print "DIED" and a list of all of the dead and their ages, and then next to it "SURVIVED" with just one name...J Bruce Ismay. Which was then made into a cartoon and printed everywhere. Hearst hated jews and asians and would often run columns from Hitler and Mussolini in his papers.

I always assumed he was a bit of a dick but reading that wiki in full it seems he didn't jump early or take anyones space in the last lifeboat and did the right thing with survivers and families afterwards. The whole women and children thing when men were THE bread winners wasn't a smart idea back then anyway

That makes no sense. 1,500 people died on the Titanic. And he survived. He took someone's place for sure. Also the women and children thing was supposed to be women and children FIRST. Then the men get saved. Not just 'women and children'. The problem was that the Titanic didn't have enough lifeboats to save everyone and it sank too quickly to load everyone anyways.

J Bruce Ismay knew all of this because he was one of the people who approved of the lower lifeboat count. So he knew more than anyone that he needed to run to a lifeboat and fight some women and children off to save his own life. Yeah no one wants to die in some frozen excruciating arctic hell. But pushing women and children aside to save yourself is pathetic.

"He left a very considerable personal estate, which, excluding property, was valued at £693,305 (approximately equivalent to £41,520,000 in 2019)."

You're outta your mind if you think I'm giving up a seat on a lifeboat with that kind of money waiting for me.

Almost a 100 years prior to the Titanic, same shit with the Medusa. The higher class people were taking off in life boats that could have sat more people but they were told "no".

That was even crazier. They had not enough lifeboats so they quickly built a giant raft to put everyone on as the ship was sinking, but it was not sturdy enough for 200 people. So the officers began murdering women and children to make room for themselves on the raft. Then began throwing the wounded and weak overboard from the raft to drown because they were making the raft unstable. Then they began eating the dead once they ran out of food. And finally got rescued after a month.

I've read conflicting things like he was so adamant to get as many off the ship and was literally shoved away by a deckhand because he was in such a panic to load as many into boats as he could. He was in the last boat that left I believe and that side of the deck had no more people on it. He was a wealthy faggot, but I think history just wants a fall guy when he was just the ship owner. The blame should be placed entirely on Smith.

People always cite that the number of boats wasn't adequate. But they were under maritime regulations of the time. They weren't meant to save everyone. They figured they would be another ship along the route after a short while since it was so heavily used in that part of the Atlantic.

I think the crew did the best they could given the circumstances and made a lot of mistakes. Like opening the one side loading door (something like 9 feet high) to get people into descending boats, which they didn't even end up using and it just flooded the ship faster once it reached the waterline.

There was a 17-year-old kid who refused to get into a lifeboat with his sisters because he was a 'man'. He waited for the ship to sink then jumped onto one of the lifeboats that had fallen from the ship and waited there with a few other men until the lifeboats returned to rescue them. Ismay knew he would have to fight to get a spot on a lifeboat with the rate the boat was sinking. He also needed his opium fix as well.

They had enough lifeboats if they didn't deliberately slam the ship into an iceberg for insurance purposes at pitch black midnight. Captain Smith was a maniac who thought that ramming the vessel into a mountain of ice would not look suspicious at all. Fortunately for him enough freemasons were in the media to make it look like a big accident. James Cameron himself is a freemason and made sure that it looked like an accident in the film instead of 'jewish lightning'.

Also when the ship hit the iceberg had they stopped steaming forward it would have stayed afloat another few hours. The fact that they kept powering forward caused water to rush in until it sank quickly. Who made the call to keep moving forward? Ismay yet again. After Titanic hit the iceberg someone ordered the crew to restart the engines and they moved forward for several minutes on the water. Lots of survivors thought that the ship was fine when they started moving again only for the ship to begin listing heavily.

When your own captain is deliberately sinking the ship you will not be able to do anything. Ramming your ship into an ice pack at midnight then piloting forward to flood the ship is intentional. They are like the firefighters who ran into the WTC on 9/11 not knowing that the Mossad had lined the building with explosives. They thought "no way the buildings collapse because of a plane" and were not worried.
