To offer a more serious reply to this thread, I think it’s for physical books in a bookstore to grab your attention.
I actually don't mind it in non-fiction because it can add some necessary context, explain which editions may have had information removed if you want to go digging for uncensored data etc. But in fiction books it's almost universally useless. I was trying to listen to A Confederacy of Dunces last night and the cunt spoiled the whole book in the first three minutes.
