I'm in the early-middle of reading two different books about Vikings right now. I'm sure this video goes into it, but the steel is thought to have come from the east, maybe Asia, but at least outside France and Western Germany, where they were crafted. The Vikings for all the violence they unleashed were motivated by gathering loot and demanding ransom, so they probably scooped up tons of these swords in their pillaging.
