Last night I had an edible and watched "Sideways." Movie is 20 years old, and it was probably the weed talking, but damn was that great.
I like dark comedys, in general, but I find that movies like "War of the Roses" and "Falling Down" are a little heavy handed. I don't hate them, but their absurdity kinda takes you "out" of the story.
But Sideways? These two dudes seem like real people. Real fucking losers, but also real people.

Random observations:
- The "cuck" and "hotwife" subculture wasn't really A Thing when the movie came out. So when I saw it in the theater, it never 'clicked' that the land whale sex scene at the end was actually for comedic effect. When I first saw the movie, I thought Paul Giamatti's character was going to get shot, and the movie was obviously illustrating that Giamatti just wanted to die, but was too much of a pussy to even kill himself. He even SAYS this in the movie, that he would kill himself if he had the guts. So in that context, you realize that he might just be trying to commit suicide by breaking into the house with the tow truck driver. Seeing it in 2024, it's way funnier, the absolute absurdity that The Tow Truck Driver and his Land Whale Wife were actually the ones pulling the strings, and they WANTED Jack to fuck the land whale
- The "Chad vs Virgin" meme didn't exist, but "Sideways" is basically a live action version of it. It's absolutely hilarious to see Jack mogging Miles at every turn, but also being completely unaware that he's being a dick. Jack is so far up his ass, he has no empathy for his friend whatsoever. But there are also a bunch of hints that Myles has absolutely no friends. IE, Jack is a dick, but he also appears to be the only friend that Myles has in the world. In one scene, Miles mentions offhand that Jack was his roommate in college. Implying that Miles may not have seen Jack in almost twenty years.
- "Sideways" is literally a remake (sequel?) to "Swingers." Basically, what happens to the dudes from Swingers when they're 40.
