It's one of those shows with zero stakes because no one dies, no one is written off, and everyone wins in the end. And each season introduces new characters that have to share the screen with the old characters and now the show is too crowded. Pretty much every single comedy show is like this now. Where no character can be removed from the show. No one ever really dies.

HBO's comedies all have the same formula. Introduce a problem, spend all season chasing the problem, solution is just within grasp, last second plot twist that prevents solution, last second save out of nowhere that takes away the problem, but resets everything to zero. It makes sense for a show like Sopranos or OZ where these characters are given storylines literally about being trapped in cycles of violence and abuse. Or in OZ literally being trapped in prison as well. Tony Sopranos is locked into his living and work situation like a prison.

But for stuff like Silicon Valley or Righteous Gemstones it gets boring seeing the same storyline over and over. "Oh my God the Gemstones are in trouble...how will they solve their probl.....OH MONSTER TRUCK!!!". "Oh no....the Gemstones are in trouble...what will they d.......SWARM OF LOCUSTS!!!". Wow who could have seen the Gemstones winning everything and getting saved yet again?

Barry was great because the show changed up every season. And killed off characters and made them leave the show. Eastbound and Down literally moved its entire plot to Mexico for the second season out of nowhere. You never knew where those shows were going. Gemstones is too easy to predict and formulaic. It's about as edgy as Friends or some faggy sitcom.
